For one of our clients in the insurance industry, we are seeking a Senior Underwriting Officer responsible for the direct sale of insurance policies and the processing of applications for coverage. The role involves assessing risks and providing professional advice on applications to help minimize potential losses for the company.
Job Description
- Support the Sales Front and act as an approver within defined underwriting authority
- Assess insurance applications, including complex risks, and determine premiums and policy conditions in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite
- Ensure policy and regulatory compliance, including documentation and broker-provided information
- Liaise with brokers, reinsurers, and external partners to evaluate risks and coverage
- Inspect properties and assess financial and physical risk factors
- Manage renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and new requests within agreed timelines
- Identify cross-selling and portfolio development opportunities
- Monitor underwriting trends and portfolio performance and escalate material issues
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and contribute to process improvements
- Provide professional broker and customer support and handle escalations when required
Requirements
- Associate (MBO-4) degree in Finance or Administration
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position
- Strong analytical skills with good judgment and attention to detail
- Able to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented
- Customer-focused with good communication, negotiation, and commercial skills
- Comfortable working with systems such as Profit and Microsoft Office
- Fluent in English, Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento
