Emergency Preparedness & Safety Officer

Help build a safer and more resilient organization. In this role, you will drive emergency preparedness, coordinate crisis response initiatives, and ensure the organization is ready to respond effectively when it matters most.

Job Description

  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the organization’s safety and emergency management systems.
  • Develop, review, and maintain emergency response, business continuity, and crisis management plans.
  • Identify safety hazards, conduct risk assessments, and monitor corrective actions to minimize operational risks and disruptions.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate emergency drills, simulations, training programs, and awareness initiatives to strengthen organizational preparedness.
  • Conduct incident investigations, analyze trends, and prepare reports with recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, government agencies, emergency services, and other external stakeholders during emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, emergency management, and regulatory requirements while supporting audits, inspections, and assurance activities.
  • Monitor emergency preparedness and operational performance data to enhance response effectiveness and promote a strong safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Emergency Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in safety, emergency response, crisis management, or operational risk management within a complex operational environment.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing emergency preparedness, business continuity, and incident response plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS), risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable safety, emergency management, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience planning and coordinating emergency drills, simulations, and crisis response training.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety, fire prevention, and hazard management principles.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Relevant certifications or training in Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, Fire Safety, Incident Command Systems (ICS), or related disciplines are considered an asset.
